Before it was put on hold by DHS, did the Disinformation Governance Board ever meet or otherwise start its work?
I suppose.
I think the goal was to give cover to the censorship strategies of social media companies. In this way, the Disinformation Governance Board had begun its work. In other words, the Board’s mere existence lent credence to the premise that there is disinformation from the government’s point of view.
But there is not.
- Information can be wrong (by accident or mistake);
- Information can be fraudulent (wrong and the purveyor knows it is wrong);
- There is disagreement about the information.
The way it has always been done
For 1 and 2, a knowledgable person or persons can offer a correction. The people (not the government) may then evaluate the situation and decide truth. For 2, if there is harm, the affected people can seek a remedy through the courts.
For 3, there are 2 or more subjective truths and the question is debated in the public via the media, social media, and the water cooler until the objective truth is established.
The way it must be done to protect the establishment
The Disinformation Governance Board was established to circumvent the processes outlined in the prior 2 paragraphs to the ruling elite’s benefit.
