What are some fundamental untruths being perpetuated by academia and the media, and how can we fight these influences?
There is one mistruth that is the progenitor of them all: that there is no objective or absolute truth.
This, of course, is the big lie.
It began with postmodernism.
Postmodernism is an intellectual stance or mode of discourse[1][2] defined by an attitude of, an opposition to epistemic certainty and the stability of meaning, and a doubtful perspective towards the usefulness of ideology in changing social systems.[3][4] Claims to objective fact are dismissed as naive realism.[4][5]
Christianity (and faith) is one solution to the problem, but potentially a flawed one. This is because Christians claim to possess objective truth absolutely, and that’s a problem too. Therefore, it is critical to accept objective/absolute truth in principle, but not to simultaneously claim absolute knowledge of life’s truths. You see, Christians’ need to claim some moral truths as absolutely true led to postmodernism. Christian moral truths may have been true (or not—this is not the point here), but their absolute claims to such are leading to Christianity’s decline. And that is a catastrophe.
ANSWER: Any cultural process (including faith) that reinforces objective truth, an objective truth that cannot be claimed, will lead to a growth in reason and the slow evaporation of societal error and disharmony.
