When will civilization collapse?

When will civilization collapse?

Civilization is created in reason, and reason is produced with problem-solving. Unfortunately, a successful civilization produces entitlement because problem-solving is no longer as essential.

Others have seen this evolution too (e.g., Machiavelli):

It is an ebb and flow. This cycle is predictable. Like the seasons.

Thus they [societies] are always descending from good to bad and rising from bad to good. For virtue gives birth to quiet, quiet to leisure, leisure to disorder, disorder to ruin; and similarly, from ruin, order is born, from order, virtue; and from virtue, glory and good fortune.

We can fix this if people acquire the capacity to reason outside of the struggle.

I say …

  • Hardship produces reason;
  • Reason produces wealth (through self-reliance and self-governance);
  • Wealth produces entitlement (enabling desire and ignorance);
  • Entitlement fails reason;
  • A lack of reason produces hardship (suffering, isolation, and societal disharmony).

New voices are seeing this now.

The Thinnest Veneer of Civilization › American GreatnessCivilization is fragile. It hinges on ensuring the stuff of life. To be able to eat, to move about, to have shelter, to be free from state or tribal coercion, to be secure a broad, and safe at home…

It is fixable. I promise. Reason must be developed outside of hardship. Yet few have the desire for it. The last was Buddha through his own suffering. It does not have to be this way, however.
