The sole dissenting voice must be protected (i.e., HEARD AND TOLERATED). The majority tends to bully, and this is antithetical to the process of reason. And, so long as we reject reason, societal disharmony will grow.

Presently, the bruhaha over speakership of congress illustrates this problem perfectly. People must be persuaded. Twenty dissenters with clearly articulated objections do not depict hostage-takers. And if they otherwise are, in time, the American voter will justifiably punish them. Societal reason is a process and takes time.

Below is another example. I apply the process of reason there (at the link) to illustrate how complicated/emotional issues can be overcome.
