NOTE: A supervised chatbot is trained and programmed by humans. An unsupervised chatbot trains itself through the internet or other source of unstructured information.

However, supervised chatbots pose a serious risk to humanity. In the past, the media programmed people through a limited set of communication channels. This was possible so long as people relied on media for answers. The subjects the media could dominate were, as a practical matter, limited.

Supervised chatbots may lead to a thinking death spiral.

Now, with AI chatbots, the authoritarian can seek to control all human thinking.

The most damaging element of this power is that it weakens human thinking on all subjects. The weaker humanity’s thinking is, the more they rely on the Chatbot, and the weaker humanity’s thinking becomes. It is a thinking death spiral.

Also, as a confounding consequence of irrationality, other dysrational people will aggressively attempt to control the thinking of others. We see this today in censorship and cancel culture.

The authoritarian’s power will grow. Eventually, civilization will collapse because the people can no longer problem-solve.
