Atheist/agnostic: “Where theists go wrong is assuming some sentient being imposed the rules of objective reality.”

ME: Instead, I think where Bible-centered individuals go wrong is that they conclude they can know these rules of reality absolutely. This is Bible-centered irrationality (IMAGE Quadrant 2).

Under the right circumstances, Biblical thinking is fine. However, the Bible will only be the objective truth among adherents. This approach is nevertheless tribal and authoritarian. Unfortunately, the Reformation brought about an end to Catholic tribalism. For Christianity to survive (in a diverse system (i.e., Western Civilization)), it needed (needs) to move away from authoritarianism to rationality.

Reason and Grace (Quadrant 3) develop objective (shared) truth–making civilization possible. The Christians could think of this as synodality. Unfortunately, they do not know how to embrace it, so they invariably veer toward relativism (Pope Francis). They have always had the answer, however: Grace (reason). But instead, they went the other way: Calvinism–Absolute Biblical authoritarianism.

Finally, postmodernism (Q1) rejects even objective truth for subjective truth (no shared truth), which is regrettably the reason why postmodernists are responsible for civilization’s (or tribe’s) dismantling.

Note also that moral rules were imposed by religion (likely justifiably) to keep the Q1 individuals from tearing down the civilization or tribe produced by Q3 and Q2 individuals, respectively. Q2 individuals and systems lead tribes (e.g., the medieval authoritarian Church–the Holy Roman Empire).
