Rationality

Rationality as defined as follows …

(1) Rationality is reason.

(2) Thinking is only sometimes reasoning (rationality). Additionally, irrationality is thinking. Children, the cognitively immature, and narcissists engage in irrational thinking through a non-reasoning process set forth here.

(3) The scientific method is reasoning only in part.

(4) Learning is sometimes reasoning. Alternatively, learning is sometimes training, whereas training is human programming.

(5) Full reasoning and the pursuit of truth require sufficiency (proving that the hypothesis explains the data [necessary condition] and that the hypothesis is the ONLY explanation for the data [sufficient condition]).

Rationality occurs when one starts with reality and facts and develops a justifiable hypothesis. A rational person always nurtures some doubt about their hypothesis in order to maintain an open mind for a new and better hypothesis. Irrationality occurs when one defines a hypothesis as a conclusion and defends it as doubtless.

Reasoning makes possible living with others

The view of others on rationality

  1. Vocabulary.com Dictionary: Rational comes from the Latin word rationalis, meaning reasonable or logical. If you’re rational, you do things based on logic, as opposed to impulse or whimsy. The original meaning in English was of something endowed with the ability to reason. Before we knew how smart some animals like dolphins are, writers liked to distinguish rational human minds from the supposedly irrational, instinctual minds of animals.
  2. In the 1970s, two psychologists proved, once and for all, that humans are not rational creatures. Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky discovered “cognitive biases,” showing that that humans systematically make choices that defy clear logic. – Humans are born irrational, and that has made us better decision-makers
