Quora: Is socialism misunderstood, or does it consistently fail in practice? Why?
It depends. Do you enjoy civilization?
If yes, then socialism is the beginning of the end for it. This must be your understanding. Socialism teaches its inhabitants that they are entitled to the wealth and opportunity civilization creates. This is entitlement thinking, and it is SELFISH. Therefore, you/they are not. The citizens of civilization MUST be self-reliant and self-governing. In civilization, you are entitled to NOTHING, or you will destroy it.
Instead, civilization offers its citizens the opportunity to create much more. This is wealth, AKA capital (vis-a-vis capitalism). This is your civilizational entitlement: opportunity!!! Sadly, only self-reliant people will see it.
If enough citizens fail to be self-reliant and self-governing, the true malevolent consequence of socialism, civilization will fall. This is the entitlement of social dependency.
