John Martin’s Illustrations of Paradise Lost (1827)

X (Twitter) Christian to me: Yes, I judge what is true and what is false and advocate for the former. The difference between us is you act as though your word is God and advocate for that.

I am sure you feel this way, declaring knowledge of God’s truth and all. However, I happen to be knowledgeable about another subject: the brain.

Humans, in emotional immaturity (i.e., without free will), are trapped in their cerebral cortex (this is cognitive habit). See image. It is a struggle to enable free will.

Yet this is the message of the Biblical Adam and Eve. The Garden (achieved in rationality/Grace) is unavailable to those who claim they know God’s truth (habit) — i.e., eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil — and are certain that they possess Truth. They don’t. Adam and Eve didn’t.

Moreover, that “knowledge” is the basis of idolatry.

These idols (faith, the Bible, etc.) are excellent tools, but in their misuse, they blind you and distance you from the authentic presence of God, your passion notwithstanding.

God, and God alone, must be your source of truth. Moreover, God’s truth is discerned via the tree of life, which must be, as it was in the Garden, at the center of your world. The tree depicts God’s countenance. You must discern truth from that, life’s Grace and suffering. They exist to overcome habit and to motivate your cognitive salvation.
