Quora – Can Psychopaths have comorbid Dysthymia?
In general, I find the commonly accepted terms for clinical observations unhelpful because they infer an understanding of the brain. Sometimes, the two are very far apart. Moreover, neural networks are formed, by and large, in development after birth. Then, there are structures which tie the networks together. The human behaviors we experience are unlikely to result from any isolated neurological building block.
It is better, when the clinical need arises, to place observed data over theoretical hypotheses. SEE LINK below, i.e., let data answer your question.
NOTE: I built my model(s) of the brian from understanding hypotheses for reason (and logic), not from a hypothesis for (ostensibly) observed cognitive dysfunction. That is, reason and logic are foundational to all. I started there. I did not begin with varied NAMED external manifestations. I believe they produce a perspective like that of a kaleidoscope.
“Referring to antisocial personality disorder as the present-day iteration of psychopathy, the APA states that antisocial personality disorder may be accompanied by a depressed mood. It further states that antisocial personality disorder can co-exist with depressive disorders, including major depression.”
