Quora – Are there any alternative views of free will to compatibilism, libertarianism, and incompatibilism?
I claim that if reason (the pursuit of truth) exists, then free will must exist. Unfortunately, people in emotional immaturity do not enjoy it. In fact, this free will threshold is the boundary of emotional maturity.
It is necessary to halt the subconscious (cognitive habit) to enable the frontal lobe (reason) – i.e., the search for truth. Absolute truth, a truth that none can claim, is essential for reason. It makes the search for absolute truth indeterminate, enabling free will. This is how and why monotheism plays such an important role in rationality and civilization. Monotheism recognizes absolute truth.
A researcher (Benjamin Libet) scientifically observed and documented it. Crucially, he noted that free will was more precisely thought of as “free won’t.” I agree. Specifically, you know free won’t as SELF-control.
The problem is that cognitive habit is a large force in routine human thought. Your brain wants to decide (claim truth). Reason, however, is about falsification, not deciding true (proof). As a result, the human free-will door is a jib door. Before emotional maturity, it is hidden, explaining why many think free will is an illusion.

Unfortunately, this door will not be visible to individuals until they open it. For example, Buddha spent 10 years looking for it. Then, in cognitive exasperation, the door opened. The lesson: suffering opens the door. Good times keep the individual in a prison of cognitive habit.
