Philosophical epistemology is irrelevant
How is epistemology applicable today?
To philosophers? I don’t know.
To me? It is not.
Epistemologists study the nature, origin, and scope of knowledge, epistemic justification, the rationality of belief, and various related issues. Wikipedia
Epistemology is required because philosophers had difficulty establishing the truth of things. To know, i.e., to have knowledge, means that some level of truth is required for human beliefs. But I believe absolute truth is unknowable.
Individuals can have subjective truths. Presently, philosophers label those beliefs Justified True Beliefs. If philosophers promote a Justified True Belief as objective or absolute truth, they encounter various problems attempting to prove the absolute truth of it. They call this difficulty Gettier problems. So they ruminate, and epistemology comes to pass.
But I say stop trying to prove absolute truth. Absolute truth cannot be known (as in claimed as known). Some philosophers also believe this. Whereas, objective truth is the truth that all stakeholders agree as true. This form of truth is helpful. The pursuit of absolute truth is reason. It all works. Thus, epistemology is unnecessary.
