Expertise I trust. Experts I don’t.
Experts want me to accept their views because of their credentials. I want to be persuaded, not bullied with a credential.
Whereas, I value experiences (data) and the rigor through which a person processes data. This is expertise.
The lay person can be very rational. Sometimes, maybe too often, the expert is irrational. Also, the lay persons, because of there large numbers, can see subtle flaws in the logic of others.
Here, on Quora, if I make one mistake in logic, my argument is attacked. But I love it. This keeps me “frosty” (on edge) as they say in my rationality hypotheses. And that which does not kill me makes me stronger.
