What is the exact meaning of the Zen saying: “If you wish to see the truth, then hold no opinions”?
Beliefs, which underpin opinions, are acquired from others, authority figures, and likely in the absence reason.
These particular beliefs have been adopted by the self as absolutely true. As such, they are immutable. Consequently, the mind is not receptive to revisions to them.
In reason, beliefs are only temporarily accepted by the self. To the self, they are accepted as subjective truths. The person here harbors doubt. Truth is still within their reach.
