Why are rights not absolute? Why do they have limits?
Well, there are two answers to that question.
- You don’t have rights that harm the rights of another;
- Also, many people think they have rights that are not rights, like healthcare, housing, income, etc. Those items are needs, not rights.
The only human right I know of is freedom of thought. Your thoughts can never harm the freedom of thought of another. Moreover, your freedom of thought can only be denied in death.
Freedom of speech, an expression of your freedom of thought, is limited such that your speech cannot harm another. For example, defamation.
