Who said “As government expands liberty contracts.”? What did they mean?
I don’t know. I think many.
But it is not entirely accurate.
Specifically, as government expands to provide services to the citizen (healthcare, welfare, education, etc.), as opposed to the citizen providing it for themselves, the citizen forfeits freedom because the forfeiting act increases the power of the government to determine the terms under which those services are provided. Also, dependency is a cage.
Government, ideally, should only be in the “business” of protecting freedoms.
