Why do so many people keep defending capitalistic system when it benefits them but quickly criticizes it when it works against them?

They don’t se the big picture. A capitalist system has both capitalism and crazy (irrational) people.
Free markets (capitalism) are free. Everyone wants to be free. Right? What’s to dislike? However, sometimes, a free people make irrational (self serving) decisions. We all dislike that, even other irrational people. It is frustrating for us all.
Therefore, to answer your question, it is very rational to like freedom (capitalism) and yet despise irrationality (self serving people).
