What are the pros and cons of a meritocratic society?
I think people want free will, don’t you?
- Free will arises in reason. That is, a systematically irrational people (Marxists) lack free will [1].
- Reason arises in problem solving. Good problem solving requires mastery of reason.
Individuals who reason, can’t help themselves, they problem solve. They make things better. This is meritocratic.
If you want a society to succeed or evolve, a meritocracy will be required. Whereas, a society without problem solvers, will ultimately fall into decay and decline. It is that simple. Thus, a society will not survive without some problem solvers and meritocratic behavior.
Best of all, a meritocratic, problem solving, rational people all have free will. Those that don’t, are sadly burdened with unhappiness in their lack of personal agency.
[1] Irrationality be provoked with emotions like fear.
