How much do policymakers rely on researchers and research study results to help them to make the best decisions?
Some do, most don’t.
Scott Atlas explicitly claimed that the some on the trump Coronavirus leadership team (Atlas, Fauci, Birx, etc.) ignored research data. As a result, their recommendations were chaotic. Data doesn’t generally create chaos.

Also, Fauci seems to have been warned about the not natural origin of COVID (using data):
Fauci was warned that COVID-19 may have been ‘engineered,’ emails show
Yet, his claims were always to the contrary (zoonotic origin).
This is but one example. The defense department is another case in point.
Politics seems to almost always weigh heavily on truth. This is why government policy making and thinking leads to broken solutions.
Government has become increasingly the enforcement of “truth” through electoral power:

This not good. The people are not stupid. The government is discrediting itself.
