For thinking civilization wide, Voltaire’s observation is nearly inarguable (nothing is in inarguable).
Without God, an individual places themselves at the center of their mental world1. The individual’s wants and desire are unchecked. Thinking is consequently impaired. Almost by definition the individual can not be humble, since, who can the individual be humble to?
If the individual is also without empathy, thinking is likely now entirely circumvented. Delusional Narcissism (and complete irrationality) is the eventual end result.
